Wednesday, 23rd September: Event: Pot d’Accueil: ‘Welcome back!’
An occasion to welcome everyone, present our forthcoming season and catch up with friends.

Wednesday, 14th October: Talk: ‘New France 1534-1763: The French and the Americas’
French influence was pervasive, militarily, philosophically, economically and linguistically throughout the eastern continent from north of the Great Lakes to the Gulf of Mexico in the south. Christine explores that legacy.
Speaker: Christine Macrae: Having moved to France in 1990 with her family, Christine spent twenty eight years working for Disneyland Paris.
Wednesday, 11th November: Talk: ‘The Nabis: a French Impressionist Group’
The Nabis were a group of French post-impressionist painters at the end of the 19th century which included Édouard Vuillard, Paul Serusier and Pierre Bonnard. Although mostly from similar schools of art, their work is fascinating in the variety of approaches taken.
Speaker: Sarah Axford had a career in Educational Psychology in Scotland. She is now pursuing her longstanding interest in art, especially oil painting, taking courses at Leith and Paintbox Schools of Art.

An occasion to celebrate a French tradition with a Galette des Rois.

Wednesday, 20th January: Talk: ‘L’Eglise de Notre-Dame, Royan’
Taking three years to build and able to accommodate 2,000 people, the church epitomises the role that a renewed sacred art had in the French approach to the rebuilding of a nation after the second world war.
Speaker: Margaret Rae was a French teacher in Scotland.

Wednesday, 17th February: Talk: ‘Johnny Halliday’
Johnny Halliday was a French singer credited with introducing rock-and-roll to France. His career spanned 57 years, 79 albums and over 1000 recorded songs. He was dubbed the “French Elvis Presley”. The talk will feature musical clips and potential audience participation!
Speakers: Paul and Lorna Becher are retired French and Spanish secondary school teachers.

Wednesday, 10th March: Talk: ‘La France en 2027 – Quel défis? Quels enjeux?
A look at life today in France. The talk focuses on the French way of life and key topics for understanding France; Marine le Pen, France’s colonial past, tricky relations with EU neighbours, the UK.
Speaker: As professor at the Loughborough University Institute for Diplomacy and International Affairs Helen has participated in numerous radio, TV, and public presentations.

Wednesday, tbc April: Talk: ‘Mary Stuart – Reine d’Écosse et de France’
Scandal, romance, intrigue, betrayal – endlessly fascinating
Speaker: Odile Hughson (FFS Edinburgh) Raised in Marseille, Odile is a historian and a guide at the Museum of Scotland.
